- HYROX has no standalone kettlebell station. The only kettlebells you touch are the two you carry in the Farmers Carry.
- The weight is per hand, a matched pair, never a combined figure: Open Women 2 x 35 lb (16 kg), Open Men 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), Pro Women 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), Pro Men 2 x 71 lb (32 kg).
- You carry that pair over 200 m.
- Open Men and Pro Women lift the same bell, because PRO divisions use heavier loads than Open.
- These loads are for Season 9 (2026/27). Always confirm against the official rulebook for your event.
The HYROX kettlebell weight is the load you carry in the Farmers Carry, and it changes with your division. There is no separate kettlebell station: the only kettlebells on the floor are the pair you pick up for that carry. You hold one bell in each hand, the number is listed per hand, and you cover 200 m. Open Women carry 2 x 35 lb (16 kg), Open Men carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), Pro Women carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), and Pro Men carry 2 x 71 lb (32 kg).
HYROX kettlebell weight at a glance
Every "kettlebell weight" question maps to one station, the Farmers Carry, where you carry a matched pair over 200 m. The figure below is the weight of a single bell in each hand, so an Open Men athlete is holding 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), not that total. Here is the full division spec in kilograms and pounds.
| Division | Kettlebell weight per hand (pair) | Carry distance |
|---|---|---|
| Open Women | 2 x 35 lb (16 kg) | 200 m |
| Open Men | 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) | 200 m |
| Pro Women | 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) | 200 m |
| Pro Men | 2 x 71 lb (32 kg) | 200 m |
There is no kettlebell station, it is the Farmers Carry
Most people searching for a kettlebell weight expect a dedicated kettlebell station, with swings or goblet squats scored on their own. HYROX does not have one. The only kettlebells in the race are the pair you pick up for the Farmers Carry, which sits at station 6 of 8. The full running order is SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jump, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls, and the kettlebells only appear at that one station.
So when a friend asks about "the kettlebell weight," they mean the Farmers Carry load for their division. If you want the fuller picture of the whole floor, our guide to the HYROX stations walks the running order, and our Farmers Carry weight and technique deep-dive covers the carry itself in more depth than this page.
Per hand, not total: how to read the weight
This is the single most common mix-up, and it fuels long arguments in HYROX community groups. The listed figure is one bell in each hand. An Open Men carry is 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand, so that is two matching bells, not the pair added into one total. Read your division's number as what each hand holds and you will pack and train the right load every time.
HYROX kettlebell weight by division (Open vs Pro, men vs women)
Singles racing splits into four load classes: Women, Women Pro, Men, and Men Pro. The rule behind them is simple, because PRO divisions use heavier loads than Open. One quirk trips people up: Open Men and Pro Women share the exact same bell, 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand. For the full division-by-station matrix across every load, use our HYROX weight standards tool.
Open divisions
Open Women carry 2 x 35 lb (16 kg) per hand and Open Men carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand, both over 200 m. For the complete Open weight sheet by gender, see our HYROX women's weights and HYROX men's weights breakdowns.
Pro divisions
Pro Women carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand and Pro Men carry 2 x 71 lb (32 kg) per hand. Pro only bumps the bell weight; the distance stays at 200 m, the same carry every division walks.
Doubles, mixed and relay kettlebell weight
Doubles and Team Relay use the same per-division loads as Singles, so a same-gender team carries its own division's Open bell. Mixed teams race the men's load class, which means a mixed pair carries 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand over 200 m. For the full doubles and relay table across every station, see our HYROX doubles weights page.
The HYROX competition kettlebell (equipment)
The competition bell is the Centr octo kettlebell, an octagonal cast-iron design with flat faces so it sits still on the floor and will not roll away between hands. The sizes used in competition are 16 kg, 24 kg, and 32 kg, and your division decides which pair you carry.
You do not need the exact competition bell to train the carry. A standard round kettlebell or a pair of dumbbells at the same per-hand weight loads your grip and posture the same way. Match the number your division carries and the demand is identical, whatever the bell looks like.
How to train for your kettlebell carry weight
The Farmers Carry punishes grip and posture more than raw strength, because you reach it deep into the race with tired hands. Train heavy carries at or above your race weight per hand, hold a tall chest so the bells do not drag your shoulders down, and practise walking through fatigue rather than resetting every few metres. For the full technique breakdown, grip cues, and drop strategy, our Farmers Carry deep-dive is the place to go next.
Frequently asked questions
What weight are the kettlebells in HYROX?
It depends on your division, and the weight is per hand. Open Women carry 2 x 35 lb (16 kg), Open Men carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), Pro Women carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg), and Pro Men carry 2 x 71 lb (32 kg), all over 200 m in the Farmers Carry.
Is the HYROX kettlebell weight per hand or total?
Per hand. Each listed figure is one kettlebell in each hand, not the combined load. An Open Men athlete carries 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand, so do not add the two bells together when you check your division.
How far is the HYROX kettlebell carry?
You carry the kettlebells 200 m in the Farmers Carry, which is station 6 of 8. By the time you reach it, most of the running and several stations are already behind you, so grip and posture are already fatigued.
Is there a kettlebell station in HYROX?
No. There is no standalone kettlebell station. The only kettlebells in a HYROX race are the pair you carry in the Farmers Carry, station 6 of 8. The full order is SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jump, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls.
What kettlebell weight do women use in HYROX?
In the Open division women carry 2 x 35 lb (16 kg) per hand; in Pro they carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand. Both are carried over 200 m. The Pro Women bell matches the Open Men load.
What kettlebell weight do men use in HYROX?
Open Men carry 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand and Pro Men carry 2 x 71 lb (32 kg) per hand, both over 200 m. Because PRO divisions use heavier loads than Open, only the bell weight changes between Open and Pro, not the distance.
What kettlebell weight is used in HYROX mixed doubles?
A mixed doubles team uses the men's load class, so each carry is 2 x 53 lb (24 kg) per hand over 200 m. Same-gender doubles and relay teams use their own division's Open load. Our doubles weights page has the full breakdown.
What size kettlebells does HYROX use?
The competition octo kettlebells come in 16 kg, 24 kg, and 32 kg. Your division decides which pair you carry per hand, from Open Women through to Pro Men, over 200 m.
What kettlebell should I buy to train for HYROX?
Train with a bell that matches your division's per-hand weight: 16 kg for Open Women, 24 kg for Open Men and mixed teams, up to 32 kg for Pro Men. A standard kettlebell or a dumbbell of the same weight trains the demand fine.
