Best HYROX Training App: What to Judge One On

A HYROX training app has to handle a fixed station order, compromised running and per-division loads. Here is what to judge one on, and who offers what.

Key Takeaways
  • A HYROX app has a job a general fitness app does not: eight rounds, each a 1 km run followed by one functional workout station, in a fixed order, at loads that change by division.
  • HYROX runs its own Online Training Partners directory, but a partner is not the same thing as a certified program. HYROX describes only one program on that list as certified.
  • Running is roughly half the race by HYROX's own reckoning, so an app that treats it as a warm-up is aimed at a different event.
  • Nobody at RoxTribe has used these apps. Every feature, rating and claim below is attributed to whoever published it, and no prices appear anywhere because they move constantly.
  • No independent comparison of HYROX-specific plan quality exists. Nobody has measured whether one app's programming produces faster race times than another's.

Every app in this category is selling the same thing: structure aimed at one fixed, dated event. The format does not vary by city or season. It is eight rounds, each a 1 km run followed by one functional workout station, and the order never changes: SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jump, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls. That makes a HYROX app unusually easy to judge, because the demands are published and identical for everyone. This page sets out the rubric first and maps the products onto it second, which is the honest order given that nobody here has trained on any of them.

What a HYROX training app has to do that a fitness app does not

A general fitness app optimises a block of training in the abstract. It can be excellent and still be the wrong tool here, because HYROX collapses four separate demands into a single continuous effort that has to be rehearsed as one thing. The four below are what the rest of this page judges against.

The running half

8 legs of 1000 m, 8 km in total. On its own preparation page, HYROX puts it more bluntly than most training apps do: "50% is Running". That single line disqualifies a lot of otherwise good programming. An app whose HYROX offering is a strength circuit with a warm-up jog bolted onto the front is aimed at a different event, whatever the marketing says. Our HYROX training guide covers what the balance should look like across a week.

Compromised running and the transitions nobody programs

This is the part most training apps miss. HYROX itself instructs athletes that "it is also important to experience running after working the legs and arms, so simulate that Race Experience at home or in the gym". With only the opening leg run on fresh legs, every leg after it lands on legs a station has already taxed, and the pace you can hold in that state has very little to do with your standalone times.

Transitions are the other invisible cost. Every one of them passes through the ROXZONE, the central transition zone athletes run through between every run and station, and the clock never stops while you are in it. An app that programs stations and runs as separate sessions never rehearses the join. Our HYROX pacing guide covers how that plays out over a race.

Loads that change by division

Singles racing splits into Women, Women Pro, Men, and Men Pro, and PRO divisions use heavier loads than Open. That is not a footnote. Open Women push 225 lb (102 kg) over 50 m, Open Men push 335 lb (152 kg) over the same ground, and Pro Men push 445 lb (202 kg). The sandbag scales the same way: Open Women lunge with 22 lb (10 kg) and Open Men with 44 lb (20 kg).

An app that never asks which division you are racing is prescribing somebody else's load. And the scaling is not uniform across the course either: wall balls stay at 100 reps in every division, so the same session means something different depending on where your weakness sits. The full per-division table is in our weight standards tool.

Race-date periodisation

The event is on a calendar. A plan that does not count backwards from a specific date is a workout library, not a plan, and the difference shows up in the last six weeks when volume should be coming down and specificity going up. Whether an app asks for your race date on signup is the fastest single tell. Our guides on how long to train for HYROX and the weekly training schedule cover what those weeks should contain.

The six things to judge a HYROX training app on

You can check every row below yourself, from a store listing or a free trial, before paying anything. That matters because the third column is the whole point: RoxTribe has not tested these products, so the useful contribution is a rubric you can apply yourself rather than a verdict you have to trust.

What to look forWhy HYROX demands itHow to check before you subscribe
Division and load awareness Loads differ by division, and training a whole block against the wrong sled weight builds the wrong thing Does onboarding ask which division you race? Do prescribed loads change when you switch it?
Running as a first-class citizen HYROX states running is roughly half the race Count the running sessions in a sample week against the strength sessions
Compromised-running sessions Only the opening leg is run fresh; the rest land on taxed legs Look for sessions that alternate a run with a station, not blocks of each
Erg work at race distance The row is 1000 m and the ski is 1000 m, both at the end of a run Check whether erg intervals are programmed to those distances or to generic time blocks
Race-date periodisation Preparation is a countdown, not an open-ended block Does signup ask for your race date, and does the plan visibly taper?
Movement standards taught HYROX tells athletes to learn the standards; a no-rep costs real time Look for standards video or coaching cues attached to each station, not just rep counts

The stations themselves are covered in our station-by-station breakdown, and the movement standards an app should be teaching are set out in the HYROX rules guide.

Rich Ryan promotes the RMR Training app in his video descriptions, so he has a commercial interest in this category and you should watch it knowing that. The structural argument he makes about how a HYROX block is actually built stands on its own, and that is the reason to watch rather than the recommendation at the end.

Official, partner, or neither: what the labels actually mean

Most of the internet uses "official HYROX app" loosely and wrongly. HYROX itself draws a distinction that almost nobody repeats, and it is the single most useful thing to understand before you spend money. There are three tiers, and only the top one is a claim about the programming.

Certified

HYROX describes Centr as "the only certified training program for total race-day performance", and its partner page goes further: "From the team behind HYROX's Official Competition Equipment comes the only HYROX-certified training program by Centr". HYROX credits it to "the proven methods of HYROX Training Academy and former World Champions", running 12 weeks across two named programs, HYROX Starter and HYROX Accelerator. Those are HYROX's words on HYROX's own site, and no other name on the directory carries them.

Partner

The HYROX Online Training Partners directory on hyrox.com listed 21 partners when the links on that page were counted on 4 August 2026. Names join and leave that roster all the time, so treat the count as a snapshot rather than a fact. Partner status is a commercial arrangement between two companies. It is not a verdict on programming quality, in exactly the way a footwear partnership is not a verdict on a shoe.

HYROX's own descriptions of a representative spread give a sense of how wide the category is. Runna is introduced as "the #1 running coaching app", with plans that "combine HYROX-specific running, strength, and mobility sessions" and pacing strategies built around the individual run legs. SHREDDY, founded by Grace Beverley, is described as running "3-phase HYROX plans" over 12 weeks, with a Solo Plan, and a Doubles Plan that "lets you toggle between solo and doubles sessions in the app". Peloton offers "a collection of classes meant to help you prep for the fitness race for Every Body, with or without access to a gym". FIIT brings "Tread, strength, rowing and recovery classes". HYBRID RACER is "a semi-personalised training program built specifically for HYROX athletes of all levels", co-created by coach Gus Vaz Tostes and endurance coach Chris Hinshaw.

Notice what that list is not: a set of comparable products. A structured 12-week plan, a class library and a semi-personalised coaching program solve different problems. The directory is a business-development page, not a shortlist.

Neither

Plenty of apps have no HYROX relationship at all, and that is not automatically a mark against them. The one that ranks near the top of search for this keyword is a worked example: the "Hyrox Workouts, Fitness Race" listing on the App Store is developed by Carles Corcoy, is listed free with in-app purchases, and describes WODs, AMRAPs, EMOMs and Tabatas across a large exercise library. Its listing claims no HYROX affiliation or endorsement anywhere.

It also illustrates why store ratings deserve less weight than people give them. That listing showed a 5.0 average from 30 ratings on the App Store in August 2026. Thirty ratings is a very small sample, and an average built on one is close to noise. That is a caution about the metric, not about the developer's work.

The apps people actually name

Every cell below is a sourced claim, not a RoxTribe assessment. There is no ranking, no countdown and no best overall, because awarding one would mean pretending to knowledge nobody in this space has. Prices are deliberately absent throughout.

AppWhat it says it doesWho says so
ROXFIT AI-assisted workout creation, workout builder and planner, guided workout player, race analytics, wearable integrations Apple App Store listing
Centr The only certified HYROX training program, 12 weeks, two named programs hyrox.com partner page
Runna Personalised plans combining HYROX-specific running, strength and mobility, with pacing strategies hyrox.com partner page
SHREDDY 3-phase HYROX plans over 12 weeks, plus a Doubles Plan that toggles between solo and doubles sessions in-app hyrox.com partner page

FIIT Tread, strength, rowing and recovery classes hyrox.com partner page
HYBRID RACER Semi-personalised program co-created by Gus Vaz Tostes and Chris Hinshaw hyrox.com partner page

ROXFIT

ROXFIT is the name that comes up most often in HYROX search results, so here is what is actually documented about it. Its Apple App Store listing gives the seller as ROXFIT Limited in the Health and Fitness category, with a free download tier. The developer-stated feature set covers HYPE, described as AI-powered workout creation, a workout builder, a training planner, a workout player with real-time guidance and voice cues, race analytics with station-by-station breakdowns, unified search across workouts, exercises, events and athletes, integrations with Garmin Connect, Strava and Health Connect, and streak tracking across strength, running and conditioning. The listing states support for HYROX racing, CrossFit, running programs and strength training. Its displayed rating was 4.8 out of 5 from 3.9K ratings on the App Store in August 2026, which is a live figure that will have moved by the time you read this.

On the business side, two named trade outlets, SME Today and Sporting Goods Intelligence, both reported in 2026 that ROXFIT raised £1.9m in seed funding led by existing investor DSW Ventures and strategic angel investor Peter Markham, alongside SWIM Capital and continued backing from York Angels, following an earlier £800,000 pre-seed round. Both outlets name Ben Wilson and Joey Allott as founders and report more than 260,000 users across 185 countries, attributed largely to organic adoption inside the HYROX community; SME Today adds that this grew from 80,000 users in May 2025. Those are the reported figures as published in 2026, and user counts of that kind date quickly.

The certified route

Centr is the only program HYROX itself labels certified, so be precise about what that buys you. It tells you HYROX has put its name to the methodology. It tells you nothing about whether the schedule fits your week, whether the loads match your division, or whether 12 weeks is the right runway from where you are now. A badge is an input to the decision, not the decision. What a structured block should actually contain is covered in our HYROX training plan guide, and the 12-week plan pairs directly with the structure both Centr and SHREDDY publish.

The running-led route

Runna is the interesting case, because its core competence is the half of the race most HYROX apps under-serve. HYROX's own page for it leans on that: a running coaching app applying pacing strategy to the run legs, with strength and mobility built around them rather than the other way round. If your stations are solid and your run splits collapse in the back half, that is a different shopping problem from a strong runner who has never pushed a loaded sled, and it points at a different product.

What we do not know

No independent comparison of HYROX-specific plan quality exists. Nobody has published a controlled comparison showing that one app's programming produces faster race times than another's, and until somebody does, every ranking you read in this category is either a vendor claim or one person's experience presented as a general result.

Nobody at RoxTribe has used any of these apps, which is why this page cites other people's published claims rather than inventing a test it did not run. App store ratings measure satisfaction with an app, not the quality of its coaching, and at low rating volumes they measure very little at all. Feature sets and partner rosters change without notice, and the directory count above reflects one day in August 2026. Prices are absent on purpose: they vary by region, tier, promotion and platform, and any figure printed here would be wrong within weeks. Check the current store listing instead.

Check before you commit. Partner rosters, feature sets and pricing are set by third parties and change without warning. Confirm current details against the official HYROX partner directory and the app's own store listing, and confirm race standards against the rulebook for your event, which for the current calendar is Season 9 (2026/27).

How to choose a HYROX training app without a comparison to lean on

Match the app to the gap in your own training rather than to its marketing. A runner who can hold pace for the whole running total but stalls on the sled needs station work, standards coaching and load progression. A strong lifter who dreads the back half needs run volume and compromised-running sessions, and will get very little from another strength library. Those two people should not buy the same product, and every "best HYROX app" list that names one winner is quietly assuming they should.

Work the six criteria in order of what breaks first. Division scaling comes before everything else, because an app that cannot prescribe your loads is wrong before any other feature matters. Then running share, then whether anything in the plan rehearses running on taxed legs, then the race date. A free trial answers all four inside a week, which is a cheaper test than a season spent on the wrong programming. If you are earlier than that and still working out what the event involves, start with what HYROX is.

The one-line verdict: choose for the half of the race you are worst at, and check it knows which division you are racing.

Software is one half of the pre-race question. The physical side, what goes on your feet and why it matters at the sled, is covered separately in our guide to the best shoes for HYROX. This page stays on software.

Frequently asked questions

Does HYROX have an official app?

HYROX does not publish a single official training app. It maintains an Online Training Partners directory on hyrox.com listing many apps and coaching platforms, and it describes Centr's program as the only certified one. Everything else on that list is a commercial partner rather than a certification, so read the label carefully.

What is the best app for HYROX workouts?

There is no independent comparison of HYROX-specific plan quality, so nobody can honestly name one. Judge candidates on whether they scale loads to your division, program running as half the event, include race-simulation work, and count backwards from your race date. Free trials let you check all four yourself.

What is the best HYROX training program?

HYROX describes Centr's 12-week programs, HYROX Starter and HYROX Accelerator, as the only certified training program. That is HYROX's own designation rather than a performance verdict. Several partner apps publish 12-week structures too. The right one depends on your race date, your division, and which half of the race you are weaker at.

Can I train for HYROX by myself?

Yes. HYROX publishes its own preparation guidance, telling athletes that running is roughly half the race, to practise running after working the legs and arms, and to learn the movement standards. An app buys structure and accountability rather than access. Our HYROX training guide covers building a block yourself.

Is there a free HYROX training app?

Several apps list a free download tier, including ROXFIT on the App Store, but a free download is not the same as free programming, and most gate structured plans behind a subscription or a one-off purchase. Pricing changes constantly by region and platform, so check the current store listing before committing to anything.

What should a HYROX app do that a normal fitness app does not?

Aim at one fixed event. The format is eight rounds, each a 1 km run followed by one functional workout station, always in the same order, and PRO divisions use heavier loads than Open. A HYROX app should scale to your division, treat the 8 km of running as half the work, rehearse running on legs a station has already taxed, and periodise to your race date.

Is 7 months enough to train for HYROX?

For most people, comfortably. The bigger question is what those months contain: whether running is programmed as roughly half the work, whether sessions rehearse running on taxed legs, and whether the block builds toward a specific date. Our guide on how long to train for HYROX covers it properly.

Do HYROX apps work with Garmin or Strava?

Some do. ROXFIT's App Store listing states integrations with Garmin Connect, Strava and Health Connect. Integration support varies by app and changes with releases, so check the current store listing rather than any third-party roundup, this one included, before you rely on it.

Is ROXFIT any good?

Nobody at RoxTribe has used it and no independent comparison of HYROX plan quality exists, so that question cannot be answered honestly here. What is documented: its App Store listing states AI-assisted workout creation, race analytics and wearable integrations, and trade press reported in 2026 that it raised a £1.9m seed round and passed 260,000 users.

Are HYROX partner apps better than independent ones?

Partner status is a commercial arrangement rather than a quality test, in the same way a footwear partnership is. Only Centr is described by HYROX as certified. Plenty of independent apps program HYROX well. Judge any of them on division scaling, run programming, race simulation and periodisation rather than on the badge.

How do I know if an app is actually affiliated with HYROX?

Check the Online Training Partners directory on hyrox.com. A HYROX-sounding app name means nothing on its own. The high-ranking "Hyrox Workouts" App Store listing, for example, is developed independently and claims no affiliation or endorsement anywhere in its listing.

Do I need an app to race HYROX?

No. The race rewards a structured block, not a subscription. An app supplies structure, progression and accountability, which matters most if you would not otherwise plan backwards from your race date. If you already train to a written plan, the honest answer is that you may not need one.
