HYROX's own landing page for the HYROX Sports Science Report, produced by its Sports Science Advisory Council, lists "why running accounts for the biggest share of race time" among the report's findings. A 2025 study in Frontiers in Physiology by Brandt and colleagues, which timed 11 recreational athletes through a simulated Individual Open race in a gym rather than at a real event, reported a median total of 86.5 minutes, of which 51.2 minutes was accumulated running against 32.8 minutes of accumulated station work. At the other end sits wall balls, station 8 of 8, which is where the back of the field loses the most time.
